Casual Teaching Jobs Available
The School of Physics invites expressions of interest from enthusiastic, suitably qualified people to work in term 1, 2021 as
•    Casual Laboratory Demonstrators for first year teaching laboratories (both for face to face and online classes)
Casual Laboratory Demonstrators for higher year teaching laboratories (both for face to face and online classes)
•    Casual Teaching Assistants for the online courses PHYS1110 Everyday Physics, PHYS1160 Introduction to Astronomy, and GENS4015 Brave New World
 

Salaries
Casual hourly rates for lab demonstrators, online teaching assistants, and markers will apply according to UNSW HR, (current rate is $52.69/hr. If the casual employee holds a doctoral qualification the rate is $62.41/hr).

Specific applicant criteria, selection process, and how to apply for different positions are set below.


Position (1)
Casual Laboratory Demonstrators for First Year Teaching Laboratory

Some labs will be offered in face to face mode. There will also be online versions of the labs, requiring synchronous, online sessions. Marking of at-home and online labs is also required.

Applicants must have:
•    Some practical experience in areas relevant to First Year Physics;
•    Completed at least two years of a Science or Engineering degree;
•    Preference will be given to applicants currently undertaking an Honours or PhD in Physics in Term 1, 2021 at UNSW Sydney.

Hours: Up to 10 hours per week from 9:00 am -7:00 pm Monday-Friday, Weeks 3-10 in Term 1, 2021. First Year labs start in Week 3 of Term 1 on 1 March 2021.

Selection for new candidates:
•    If your qualifications are suitable you will be invited to attend a 30 minutes test and interview on the 28th  January 2021. The test will cover simple first year physics principles.
•    If you are selected, you will need to attend Induction & Training Workshop for Laboratory Demonstrators. It will be held on the morning of 4 February 2021 in the First Year Teaching Laboratory in Old Main Building.

Position (2)
Casual Laboratory Demonstrators for Higher Year Teaching Laboratory

Most labs will be offered in face to face mode, but there may also be some online synchronous lab support offered.
Applicants must have:
•    Some practical experience in areas relevant to Higher Year Physics;
•    Science or Engineering degree;
•    Preference will be given to applicants currently undertaking an Honours or PhD in Physics in Term 1, 2021 at UNSW Sydney.

Hours: 3-4 hours per week from 9:00 am -6:00 pm Monday-Friday, Weeks 1-10 in Term 1, 2021. Higher Year labs start in Week 1 of Term 1 on 15 February 2021.

Position (3)
Casual Teaching Assistants for the online courses PHYS1110, PHYS1160 and GENS4015

Applicants must have:
•    Knowledge of Physics relevant to PHYS1110, PHYS1160 and GENS4015 courses
•    Science or Engineering degree;

Hours: 40 hours per term for PHYS1110; 48 hours per term for PHYS1160; 30 hours per term for GENS4015, within weeks 1-11 in Term 1, 2021.

Selection for Positions (2) and (3)
If your qualifications and experience are suitable for the above positions, you will be invited to attend an interview with the relevant staff before the start of the session.

We will make a separate call for casual tutors for PHYS2111 Quantum Physics; PHYS3112 Experimental Physics and PHYS3113 Thermal and Statistical Physics in early 2021. These roles will only be available to current PhD students in the School of Physics

We will open applications for casual teaching in terms 2 and 3 2021 later in the year.
