Quantum Spin Networks as Information Automata
I will describe how the natural dynamics of networks of permanently coupled spins can be used to accomplish useful information processing tasks. For example, I will describe how quantum states can be conveyed over a distance through a spin chain data-bus, and how the same can be exploited to accomplish a quantum logic gate involving distant spin qubits. Potential practical realisations with ultra cold atoms and semiconductor quantum wires will be described. Further, I will discuss how useful entanglement can be set up between well separated sites by enacting global and local quenches. In the end, I will argue that perhaps spin network automata, particularly those implementing some relevant 3-bit gates, could open a new avenue for low control and low dissipation electronics.
