School Colloquia Series - Sarah Martell - Globular Clusters and Galaxy Formation
Tuesday 27th June 2017
Speaker: Dr Sarah Martell
Abstract: Globular star clusters contain some of the oldest stars in the Milky Way. From the perspective of Galactic archaeology, they are extremely important for understanding the formation and early evolution of the Galaxy. Investigating the role that globular clusters have played in the assembly of the Galaxy also serves to illuminate some fundamental (and still unanswered) questions about the nature and origins of globular clusters. I will describe the current state of the problem, and some recent work aimed at building a more comprehensive picture of the relationship between globular clusters and galaxy formation.
