School Colloquia Series: Using Rest-Frame UV Spectroscopy to Constrain Pathways of Escaping Ionizing Radiation in HighRedshift Galaxie
Date:
Tuesday 23rd July 2019
Time:
01:00pm
Location:
G59 Old Main Building
Speaker: Prof. Naveen Reddy (University of California, Riverside)
Abstract:
A key issue in astrophysics is to uncover the sources responsible for ionizing hydrogen in the early Universe. Prof. Reddy will discuss how deep rest-frame UV spectroscopy of cosmologically-distant galaxies can be used to constrain pathways by which hydrogen-ionizing radiation escapes galaxies. Prof. Reddy will highlight a few observational proxies for escaping radiation and show how these measurements will be key for identifying and characterizing those galaxies that contribute to cosmic reionization.
